Farewell Kuala Lumpur

Although we were only passing through Malaysia, thanks to a flight change it gave us the opportunity to check out Kuala Lumpur City - Its seems to be a pretty cool place.. the city has an impressive skyline, and in asia was the 1st place where we managed to a meal served with gravy at last!!

Strange how its always the little things you miss when your away for so long.. and they are usually food related.

Worlds Tallest buildings...

Every country claims to have a tallest something.. here are the facts.. of course changing every year as a new skyscaper reaches for the skies.

Petronas Towers

Although we were only passing through Kuala Lumpur it would have been a wasted opportunity if we had have missed their twin towers.

They were a lot more shiney than we had imagined. Sadly the building was closed so we could not go to the top. But heck, we've been to the top of so many of these "world tallest" buildings we kinda didn't need to.

The buildings and the waterfall grounds outside were really impressive. The towers were damn difficult to get a full shot photograph of which was confirmed by pretty much every Kuala Lumpur travel brochure we have seen (they also crop off most of the buildings).

The Petronas Twin Towers were the tallest buildings in the world from April 15th, 1996 until October 17th, 2003 when Taipei 101 (Financial Center) was topped out at 508m (1676ft).

Egyptian Mall

This was one of the more impressive places in Kuala Lumpur. It was really just a mall but it was built in the style of an ancient egyptian Pyramid. The huge lion head at the entrance was amazing. There was also a load of egyptian sculptures inside. Impressive!

Holiday Inn - Glenmarie

The Holiday Inn we stayed in was like a fortress. They had these huge fans hanging from the roof -very unique. There were loads of sections for Paul to get lost in too (and he did, touring almost the entire hotel instead of just turning around and walking through a door).

Our room view...was fab, a full view of the in house golf course.

We felt we were back home in the lap of luxury - as our Tokyo hotel sucked.. worst of our trip.

Cabbie Con

Yeah here also the usual scam cab drivers. Leaving the airport we had crowds of cab drivers trying to wave us down, all offering a fare that was over 10 times more than it should be. They will use such exuses as:

"But I have to cover my return costs"(which cab doesn't, it's a resort unlike the airport which is out of the way).

"It's a limosine service"(a mercedes or sometimes just a black cab).

"Everyone else will charge the same"(yeah that's cos they are all ripping people off too).

We found that if you go outside the airport you can get a cab on the meter(apparently these cabs are breaking the law whereas the rip off guys upstairs are completely above board).
